HomeAround the turn of the 19th into the 20th Century, Jugendstil became a widespread style which was named after the German magazine ‘Jugend’. In France, they called this style Art Nouveau and in England, likewise, they called this Art Nouveau or Modern Style. In Austria, they called Jugendstil ‘Secession Style’ after a group of Viennese artists from the Vienna Secession. Building facades constructed in Jugendstil were often crested externally with ornamental plastics. New materials, such as iron and glass, were also built into the structures.  In the interior areas, materials such as marble, ceramic tile, majolica, coloured mouldings, metal applications, gold plating and ornamental sculpted windows are also to be found.
